Termanology-Politics_As_Usual-2008

Photobucket

At the onset of 2006, Term caught his big break when legendary producer DJ Premier blessed him with one of his signature, scratchladen beats. “Watch How It Go Down” instantly became an underground classic and Termanology appeared on hip-hop’s international radar. The conscious hood anthem garnered the earnest MC tons of praise, landing him in The Source’s “Unsigned Hype” and XXL’s “Show and Prove” columns. Since then, he has quickly climbed the industry ranks with his “Hood Politics” mixtape series and continued collaborations with DJ Premier and other big name producers. Term’s hard work resulted in a joint venture deal with Brooklyn-based label Nature Sounds, which he signed in late 2007.

“Term has a unique desire for the culture as he touches on issues that I can relate to as a TRUE HIP-HOP HEAD. His flows are nice, and has creative subject matter that speaks for me, not every new MC comin’ up can do that.”

Dr._Dooom_(aka_Kool_Keith)-Dr._Dooom_2-2008-

Escrito em 22 de Setembro de 2008 por Maestro

Photobucket

After single-handedly redefining “warped” as the mind and mouth behind the Bronx-based Ultramagnetic MC’s, “Kool” Keith Thornton, aka Rhythm X, aka Dr. Octagon, aka Dr. Dooom, headed for the outer reaches of the stratosphere with a variety of solo projects. A onetime psychiatric patient at Bellevue, Keith’s lyrical thematics remained as free-flowing here as they ever were with the N.Y. trio, connecting up complex meters with fierce, layers-deep metaphors and veiled criticisms of those who “water down the sound that comes from the ghetto.”

2008 will see the return of Dr Dooom, produced by KutMasta Kurt. This album will be huge! One of the more underrated producers and DJs in the West Coast underground, KutMasta Kurt initially made his name working with Kool Keith, during which time he first donned his trademark Mexican wrestling mask. Kurt began DJing in the Bay Area. As his reputation grew, local MCs began to approach him about producing tracks. Kurt bought some basic studio equipment and taught himself to use it. After a few remixes for the likes of Tim Dog, Buju Banton and Mic Geronimo, Kurt’s friendship with the groundbreaking, underappreciated Ultramagnetic MC’s paid off when, in 1994, ex-leader Kool Keith tapped Kurt to handle DJ and production duties for his new solo career. Kurt produced a couple of tracks on Keith’s landmark Dr. Octagon album, but their first full project together was 1997’s “Sex Style”, the first album released under Keith’s own name. Kurt also helmed Keith’s album as Dr. Dooom, 1999’s “First Come, First Served”, and 2000’s “Matthew”.

By the time “Matthew” was released, Kurt had begun to build his own career apart from Keith. He provided remixes for the likes of the Beastie Boys, Planet Asia, Rasco, Luscious Jackson and Blackalicious, among others. He also formed his own label, Threshold, and in 2000 released the full-length album “KutMasta Kurt Presents: Masters of Illusion”, a collaborative project that featured Kool Keith and underground MC Motion Man.

Skip ahead to 2008 and the Dr. Dooom comeback. The album is titled “Dr. Dooom 2″ and it’s the type of release that everybody will be talking about.

Longtime Wu-Tang affilate Killah Priest along with Army of The Pharaohs core member Chief Kamachi have teamed up to release a full length collabo album entitled “Beautiful Minds” on Good Hands Records. Both rappers are considered two of the top poetry writing MC’s in the game, and by joining forces Priest and Kamachi plan to deliver an album that fans of lyricism will love. “Kamachi and I are alike in a lot of ways, and this album is going to turn a lot of heads,” says Priest. Kamachi responds with “Working with Priest was like going to the studio with myself. It was second nature working with him. It all just came so naturally.” The album features only one track with guest appearances, a rarity these days. West coast mainstays Planet Asia and DJ Rhettmatic lend a hand on the track “Illest”. Production on “Beautiful Minds” is handled by Tekneek (Kurupt, Tha Dogg Pound), E. Dan (Reef The Lost Cauze, Kamachi, Wiz Khalifa), C Sik (Dilated Peoples, Strong Arm Steady), Dev Rocka, Diamond Legit, Emonex and more. After Killah Priest’s recent success with albums “The Offering” and “Behind the Stained Glass” combined with the success of the latest Army of The Pharaohs album called “Ritual Of Battle” from 2007, which scanned well over 20k, this release is destined to be on every top ten independant Hip Hop list for 2008.

Blu_And_Mainframe_Are-Johnson_And_Jonson-2008-

Escrito em 17 de Setembro de 2008 por Maestro

Johnson&Jonson is the project by Blu and Mainframe. Most are familiar with Blu’s work with producer Exile on the release, “Below the Heavens,” and his release with Ta’Raach as C.R.A.C. for their album, “The Piece Talks.” Johnson&Jonson rounds Blu’s foundation for their debut release “Johnson&Jonson,” in a period where Blu recorded all three projects (Below the Heavens, C.R.A.C, and Johnson&Jonson),during a similar time period.

Intended as a mixtape for “Below the Heavens,” “Johnson&Jonson” is a project filled with fun, wit, and experience told by an emerging hip hop star, while living and recording the project in Long Beach, CA. It was supposed to paint a different story to other projects, as Johnson&Jonson is intended to be Blu’s rap/swagger project, as opposed to the energy of C.R.A.C. or the song writing and auto-biographical nature of Blu & Exile’s “Below the Heavens.” Blu’s personality and humor captivates audiences, while displaying his lyrical power and capability.

Be prepared to embark on another journey provide by Blu. This time with the help of Mainframe, as the group, “Johnson&Jonson,” both artists take you on a trip through their life in Long Beach, CA — the ups and downs, their stories and experiences, and their relatable humor that everyone can identity with.

DJ_Design-Jetlag-2008-

DJ Design was an early member of the Stones Throw roster, releasing the compelling instrumental album Gather Round as well as the “Sparkdala” single with Quasimoto. He produced the first two Foreign Legion albums Kidnapper Van and Playtight and toured the world as the dj for the group. Design also remixed a track from the Beastie Boys album Hello Nasty called “Negotiation Limerick File.” In 2003 DJ Design formed his own record label, Look Records, which has released full lengths from Foreign Legion, A.G. (DITC), Phat Kat (of J Dilla fame), G&D (Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins) and Grip Grand.

Jetlag has been a work in progress since 2004, with various artists flying back and forth to San Francisco to DJ Design’s recording studio. The album features guest appearances by Stones Throw recording artists Guilty Simpson, Oh No & Roc C and former Stones Throw artist Dudley Perkins, football star Brandon Lloyd and Detroit’s Phat Kat of J Dilla fame. Between tour dates and the daytime gig as president of Look Records, DJ Design produced and mixed down the album to what it is today. Jetlag is a snapshot of Designs past as well as a look into the future of this eclectic producer.
