Krumb_Snatcha-Hidden_Scriptures(2009)

Escrito em 29 de Abril de 2009 por Maestro

Photobucket

Gangstarr fans and followers of indie rap already know the name Krumb Snatcha. His appearance on “Make Em Pay” from the “Moment Of Truth” album generated some buzz, but it wasn’t until his “Snatcha Season Pt.1″ EP with songs like “Hip Hop” and the industry critique “Gangsta Disease” that his profile got a national rep. Dueting with M.O.P. for the Oscar award winning movie “Training Day” soundtrack only served to solidify his position, setting the stage for his full length album “Respect All Fear None” on D&D Records in 2002. From the streets of “Lawtown” to new found label Str8up Entertainment Krumb is back with a new sound and moniker for the fans. It’s the rebirth of K.S. and the death of Krumb, as stated in his song ” Begins” produced by legendary producer Pete Rock on his new full length release entitled “Hidden Scriptures” (STREET DATE: 2/17/2009). Krumb a.k.a. K.S. is most notably known for being the first independent artist to receive the prestigious award of The Source Magazine’s “Hip Hop Quotable” for his verse on the Gangstarr album “Moment Of Truth” which propelled him in the spotlight to release “Closer To God” produced by none other then the legendary DJ Premier.

With a slew of guest appearances on albums by Guru of Gangstarr, Pete Rock, Beatminerz, Funkdoobiest, ED OG, Termanology, Teflon, Afu Ra, Craig G, Tony Touch and etc. Since then Krumb has been actively under the radar but making an appearance in the motion picture “Urban Massacre”. With his mixtape release entitled “You’ll See” hosted by “DJ Green Lantern” late last year it has positioned K.S. Release his best work to date “Hidden Scriptures” with production by names like Pete Rock, Large Professor, Beatminerz, Statik Selektah and 3 time DMC champion DJ Ace with the lead off single “Feeling” by Beatminerz, and “Mind Power” by Large Pro, Krumb is sure to catch a lot of ears on this new album!

Abstract Rude - Rejuvination (2009)

Escrito em 29 de Abril de 2009 por Maestro

Photobucket

As a product of the legendary Goodlife open mic sessions, Abstract Rude splashed onto the scene in 1994 as part of the famed Project Blowed crew that included LA’s Freestyle Fellowship and Aceyalone. As one half of the A-Team (with Aceyalone), one third of Haiku D’Etat (with Aceyalone & Myka 9) and frontman of his group Abstract Tribe Unique (ATU), Ab Rude has endeared himself to fans worldwide through consistent touring and genre defining albums such as 1999’s South Central Thynk Tank (currently out of print). Once signed to the Beastie Boys Grand Royal imprint, Ab has readied himself to re-emerge with Rhymesayers Entertainment and his most consistent and focused work to date, Rejuvenation.Produced entirely by Seattle super producer Vitamin D (G-Unit, Redman, Young Buck, Gift of Gab, Choklate, Lifesavas, Black Sheep, etc.), Rejuvenation is a hard hitting soulful ryde showcasing Ab Rude’s distinct and unlimited vocal stylings.

afterlife mc’s - the declaration of an independent 2000

Escrito em 29 de Abril de 2009 por Maestro

The “Declaration” is another bangin’ masterpiece from the Blowdians. In my opinion, every track was hard hittin’, west coast aesthetics at its finest. Ngafish, Riddlore?, and others were very solid on the production side. For me, it gave me a chance to hear some artists that i haven’t really heard yet (ie. Easty Boys). I especially liked how Busdriver came with some verbal fire on “i don’t dance”. The track titled “iz hip hop dead!” was a fresh and in yo face type of jam. kinda like ricky henderson, bangin in the lead off spot. Blowdian fans will enjoy hearing several tracks where veterans like: C.V.E., hip hop kclan, omd, and busdriva represent heat on the mic. I was vibin’ to every track, but to name a few really tight ones, i would say that “kraft” and “i put that on the klan” are sick. i also found those tracks by legion to be pretty cool. While listening to this album, a few of my boys felt that the vibe was a lil “gangsta”. oh well, that’s how the west coast does it! Declaration is a 2X disc dosage of some raw and ill Project Blowed $*it! If you are an underground hip hop fan, i recommend you check it out! peace.

The Grouch & Eligh - Say G&E! (2009)

Escrito em 19 de Abril de 2009 por Maestro

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

On the 14-track collection, The Grouch & Eligh team up once again for a perfect balance of straightforward wordplay and high-concept rhymes. The duo’s third collaboration, SAY G&E!, features notable guests: Slug of Atmosphere, Pigeon John, Gift Of Gab, Mistah F.A.B., Sage Francis, Mystic, and LA’s latest sensation, Blu, along with guest beat production from Flying Lotus, super-producer Rick Rock, and Zion I’s Amp Live, who’s received major blogospheric activity for his Radiohead guerilla remix project. For anyone who’s heard Grouch’s recent work, it’s clear that the southland rapper –who now resides part-time in Hawaii–has moved beyond the average emcee. As founding members of the original D.I.Y. collective, The Living Legends, Grouch & Eligh have been at the forefront of the west coast’s independent rap movement for over a decade. Outside the Living Legends Grouch has released 7 solo efforts. Eligh, who produced most the album, met Scarub and Murs in the early 90s and formed a group called 3 Meloncholy Gypsy’s (3MG). Eventually, Eligh moved up to the Bay Area, where he met Grouch and Sunspot. There, the Living Legends officially formed. On “All In” where Grouch & Eligh along with Gift of Gab and Pigeon John rap about standing by the proverbial river and jumping in with both feet and giving everything to the hustle in life and music, without flinching, not to mention a notably infectious hook. On the title anthem track “Say G&E!,” the pair recall their early days as struggling artists over a mesmerizing, synthesized beat. These two aren’t afraid to tackle serious topics either. On tracks like “Denial” and “River Runs Dry” the two contemplate transcendent signature issues with a maturity and depth that is often untapped in the world of hip-hop. “There’s a lot of manning up that’s been done by Eligh and myself recently,” says The Grouch. “We’ve got some heavy stuff on the album.”

P.E.A.C.E. (of Freestyle Fellowship) - ‘K.I.T.S. ‘N’ P.I.T.S. Presents Gumbo’
Photobucket

If titling an album Gumbo seems forced-lots of influences, we get it-it’s forgivable when that album comes through, as this disc does. A collaboration between P.I.T.S (a.k.a. P.E.A.C.E. of Freestyle Fellowship) and his cousin K.I.T.S, the album blends styles so easily all you notice is the end result. From the stylistic, low-key consciousness of “Boyz N Da Hood (Watts Up)” to the bass-driven “Nervous Bomb” to my favorite, “D.S.L.”-a tight pop culture catalogue, even punning off names of various Pokemon-the album serves up tracks that are intelligent without condescension, fun without pandering.

Myka Nyne - A Work In Progress
Photobucket

In rap, the pioneers rarely get paid. Take Myka Nyne (a.k.a. Mikah-Nyne), one of the founders of hip-hop’s canonical crews, Freestyle Fellowship. From their base at the Good Life Café, Myka and his mates drew the map for literate West Coast rap, blazing a trail to riches for groups like Jurassic 5. Unlike his former Fellowship colleague Aceyalone — who recently hit indie paydirt with the help of RJD2 — Myka’s had to make due without the help of the “hipsterati,” producing an album with a distinctly DIY feel. While his music sounds like an exercise in minimalist anti-production, Myka’s mic skills are on-point, as he floats sublimely above a didgeridoo sample on the psychedelic “Wartrybe” and spews an anti-industry screed on the micro-funky “This Ain’t The Song.” The rapper is defiant throughout, reveling in his sound’s commercial anti-viability, like a preacher speaking only to the converted. Myka’s not a missionary; he’s a prophet.

Mr lif - I Heard It Today 2009

Mr. Lif’s albums have always had their finger on the pulse of America but I Heard It Today is his coup du sort. Boldly holding a mirror to the face of society, Lif has blended veteran producers such as Edan and J Zone with up and coming producers Willie Evans Jr., Batsauce, Therapy, and Headnodic to create an album that speaks brazenly about the current political issues and agendas Americans and the global community are facing: fear, paranoia, and angst as the U.S. economy collapsed and the bailout bill passed, self hatred in the Black community, and the housing crisis are just a few of the topics touched on through I Heard It Today. Lif takes these negatives and turns them on their head, using them in search of a healthier way of life and a way to achieve freedom and peace of mind through the power of the imagination. In a true “change starts with you” move, Lif is self-releasing the album on his new Bloodbot Tactical Enterprises label on April 21st 2009.
